I just threw a 60th birthday party and i found a website that has very nice, unique favors. It's http://www.milkweedcafe.com
they sell pretty boxes with paper shapes that re seeded with flower seeds. In the box was a card that said something like "please plant these seeded shapes in celebration of ——–. By doing so you will provide a habitat for butterflies"
They were very pretty and everyone loved them. AND THEY WERE UNDER $2 EACH!!!!!!

Here's a few easy ones.
You could buy wedding cake candles at any dollar store… or everyone gets a hand-decorated cupcake/muffin with a bride-and-groom impaled into it (you know, like mini cake topper?)
Then there's always the idea of placing a disposable camera or two at every table for cherished moments and pass out the photos… I dunno

For our wedding, I made chocolate lollypops. The molds reflected our theme. I put the pops in clear plastic bags and tied a ribbon around it to keep it in place. I attached little strips of decorative paper that had different quotations about love and life printed on them. The chocolate was yummy, and the papers were a small reminder of the wedding for the guests to take home. It was relatively quick, and cute, and not very expensive. You can find molds in lots of styles and you can even paint the molds with colored chocolates to make them even cuter!

At my friends wedding, they made their own bookmarks with their names, the date of the wedding. You could buy votive candles, wrap them in organza and tie a pretty ribbon on top to gather it together.

Shopping List:
Cupcake tins with smooth edges (you can borrow these from family as well - the project doesn't hurt them - just make sure to wash them well before returning.)
Candle gel (you can get this at your craft store)-Follow preparation instructions
Wicks
Several bunches of silk(plastic) daisies.(or anything you want inside)
Detach the daisies from the stem. Pour a very small amount on in the cupcake tins. Place the daisy in the tin the wick on top and finish filling with gel. Let dry. Use a non-serated knife to remove from cupcake tin if they stick a little. Now you have homemade - matches theme - sentimental favors that are cheap, easy, (if not slightly time consuming as far as drying goes) and very cute.

I just started planning my Sept 06 wedding as well and I found some great - and cheap - ideas at oriental trading company's website. I'm getting lottery ticket holders (they have a nice saying on them) for $3.95 for 24 and buying $1 lottery tickets for in them — and, for the kids, I'm getting some plastic noise makers for less than $5 per dozen. With about 100 guests, it will cost around $130 for all the favors. Good luck with planning.

I would say you have gotten a lot of great suggestions already, but if you want to check out one more place, visit http://advancedvideo.50webs.com They have hundreds of links to wedding favor places, and many offer favors for $1. I don't think you can get any cheaper than that. The best thing is they all look very tasteful, no tacky stuff.
