VERY inexpensive (read: CHEAP) wedding favors??

We’re getting married on August 2nd. I’ve already tapped out a lot of our wedding funds and I need a VERY CHEAP idea for wedding favors (preferrably personalized). We want something around $.50 to each. Help!

PS. We are getting married on a boat in the early evening so it will be very hot and anything that will melt will not work.

I skipped the favors…and no one noticed. I have never received a favor that I liked, so why put the money into it? As long as there is good food and good drink, everyone should be happy.

    Best wishes.

I’d pass then. Nobody much cares about favors, Make sure you have plenty to drink.

Very inexpensive? If on a budget, skip the favors.

Favors are not necessary. Most people don’t remember them anyway.

I would say skip the favors, and put that money toward another wedding item.

I would skip the favors. I always see them left behind at the end of the evening. They are absolutely not needed. If you feel you must, how about a couple of heart shaped baked sugar cookies?

I would do fans… then get yourself some business cards that you print yourself, print them up saying thank you for sharing our day… punch a hole in the corner then attach with a ribbon in the color of your wedding. It will serve 2 purposes, one as a favor and two to help keep your guests cool.

Just skip them. Honestly, a $.50 trinket that at least half of your guests will throw away is not worth stressing out over.

Hi. You are getting married on a boat? How nice. Totally different! Skip the favors…..no one notices. Something personalized is what I tell people NOT to do. Really….no one wants something with someone else’s initials and wedding date on it. Your unique venue is enough. Just keep it at that!

OK, I have some ideas for you, though I have to admit that a couple of them are a little cliche. But if you don’t care, then I don’t care.

Compilation CDs- Create an iTunes playlist of 12-15 songs either featured in or inspired by your wedding. A few love songs, maybe even a "joke" song or two, like "Another One Bites the Dust," LOL. Then burn one CD for each guest. Total cost, including the blank CDs, CD cases, and the CD label creation kit to make fancy labels for them- about 50 cents per CD.

Flower seed packets- not only are they eco-friendly, but they are also CHEAP!!! LOL. Buy some easy-to-plant flower seed packets at Home Depot, maybe some of the same blooms you had in your bouquet to tie in the theme, and then print out little labels that say your names and wedding date and a little saying like :"I say love, it is a flower, and you its only seed." (That’s a line from The Rose, an incredibly sappy old Bette Midler song, if you didn’t recognize it.) Total cost- if you’re lucky enough to have printable labels at your workplace, they’ll probably let you print some there for free (just ask first!) The seed packets will be about 25 cents per person.

Wedding bubbles- can’t go wrong with wedding bubbles!!! They come in packs of like 25 for about $3.99 a pack, so that works out to about 15 cents per bottle of bubbles. Tie some ribbon in your wedding colors around the top of each bottle, and attach a little handwritten tag that says your names and wedding date on the ribbon. Total cost, including ribbon and tags, about 18 cents a person.

I hope these suggestions help. I personally plan on using each one for my own wedding (September 5, 2009.) My big bunner is that it’s still too early to buy any seeds and bubbles for my wedding, since did you know they go bad after a year or so? It’s true. Anyway, have a lovely wedding. It sounds really nice!

If you are that strapped for cash then I say just omit them completely. No one will care or probably even notice.

If you really want to do favors, what about personalized pens or pencils? Those are easy to produce and if you decide on something simple like bic pens, they’re really cheap. I think I remember seeing them for like $0.19 each, but I’ve been wrong before.

    Good luck and Congrats!

My husband and I printed some of our favorite scripture verses from the Bible on magnets for our guests to take home.

Even if you’re not religious, you could print a favorite quote or saying. Office Depot/Office Max/Staples sell magnetic sheets that you can just feed through your ink jet printer.

I think we paid $20 for a pack of 5 sheets of paper and got around 60 magnets made. You could also print photos on them.

But, favors are completely unnecessary. I can only think of 1 or 2 weddings of the last dozen I’ve attended that had them.

I wouldnt bother with favors since most people dont even take them home anyways and I know I dont want something personalized by the bride and groom sitting around my home. I would be happier knowing the money went towards food, drinks and music for a fun night then some $0.25 pack of seeds I would probably never use.

The least expensive favors are non-existent ones. Most favors end up in the trash anyway, and well, personalized ones don’t mean much to anyone but the people whose names are on them.

    There’s no need for them.

You can get small cellophane bags from the cake decorating aisle at any craft store for about 50 @ $2.50. Salt water taffy should be fine in the heat, it goes with your boat theme, it’s super cheap and you can order it in your wedding colors.
Use ribbon or raffia to close the bags and you can add a personalized tag or sticker to each bag. Should be under 50cents per favor.

Or how about hand fans if it’s going to be so hot?
You could personalize them with ribbons and tags or order one of the personalized printed styles.

Match books are inexpensive and would actually get used.
It’s always handy to have that extra pack of matches with you lose electricity or go camping.
And they are only $25 or $30 for a package of 100!

I think a candy bar or something that represents you two w/a little note/card or ribbon….

My fiance and I were thinking the other night that we wished we had boughten Cracker Jack boxes for our guests. We are both very playful and it’s cool b/c there’s a toy inside… we’d have a little poem printed on a card and put on it…. We both loved Cracker Jacks as a kid and my name is Jackie so…..

We finally decided to go with personalized pens from National Pen… it has a saying (The Best is Yet to Come..) and then our names/wedding date… I think we paid like $.40 cents each… we also got some boxes from Michael’s and filled them with truffles and a tied the box with blue ribbon… and lastly, we made some bookmarks…. they were so easy and inexpensive to make… I got some card stock, printed a poem that I found on the www, included our wedding motif (the Fleur di Lis) w/our names/wedding date… we printed like 6 per page, used a papercutter to cut them… and then laminated them… we have a laminating machine (it was inexpensive)…. we punched a hole at the top and ran a ribbon through it. If I did it over I’d probably forgo the ribbon and maybe even the laminating……

    Good Luck…

M&M’s in a tulle bag is a good idea.
    Lottery tickets
Hershey Kisses (check link below, we printed on label paper and used a circle puncher to personalize the kisses)
    lollipops
Make something; ie. cookies, peanut butter balls

Seriously, don’t bother with them. If you are trying to do them on the cheap then chances are they will wind up looking cheap. As a guest, I can very well do without another knock knack in my house. Save your money. Don’t bother with favors.

If you are dead set on finding something, make a donation to your favorite charity in your and your new spouse’s name and just print little cards saying that "In lieu of favors the bride and groom made a donation to x charity." I would rather see someone do that than waste money on plastic favors.

Add***Seriously, please do not do a personalized trinket. No one likes these. The bride convinces herself that it’ll be something that everyone will save and remember, but really the guests will throw it in the trash! Please, please save your money. I know that I detest personalized favors. Thanks, but I don’t need a personalized shot glass or anything. I’m not in high school-it isn’t prom. Just don’t do it!

Your wedding on the boat sounds truly lovely. Please just pass on favors.

I did personalized shot glasses for my wedding. They came out so cute. The price depends on how many you order. I believe mine were under $1.00 for 144.

I’ll give you the website I used. They also have other personalized stuff like pens, candle holders, champagne glasses, etc…

How about paper fans? Since it will be so hot. These are on sale to end up being .59 a piece and you would only have to do one per couple. They come in a variety of colors.

How about giving your guest a message in a bottle.Depending on how many guest you have. I have done this, We are getting married on the beach. I made up 4 different "message in a bottle" poems telling them how special they are to us( 4 couples at the table, 1 poem per couple) and filled with sand and shells. I also decorated the bottles with twine. It didn’t cost much but alot of work. I got all the wine bottle free from a friends restaurant.Very cheap but they look good and they are personalized.

Skip them and put the money towards food or drinks. Guests will appreciate that a lot more than a cheap trinket.

And personalized favors just suck … why would anyone want anything with YOUR name on it? Giving someone a "gift" with your name and wedding date stamped on it really isn’t a gift. You may as well flush your money down the toilet right now, because that stuff ends up in the garbage most of the time.

If you absolutely MUST offer favors, try candy or cookies.

Most favors end up on a drawer or on a shelf. No one really wants them. Best best, make a donation in lieu of favors to a cause that is important to you both or our families. Then you can donate what you can and for a good cause.
