No matter how "usual" favors are, they are not required nor even customary. If you don't have them, a few slaves to The Wedding Industry may (mistakenly) believe that this is "weird" or "something missing." If you DO have them, more than a few guests will be thinking "Oh dear, now I have to deal with making sure I take this tawdry geegaw home, and then remember to drag it out and display the cheap thing every time they come to visit for the next year or so before I can decently hand it off to the Goodwill." Save your money for something worthwhile.
hot_sexy, I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, but it sounds like you are expecting your guests to EAT your candle holders.

Make the guests a CD of the bridge and groom's favorite songs.

We also had a fall wedding and We made little note pads:
We took a piece of cream colored cardstock turned it landscape and cut it into three strips. We then took a Post-it note pad and glued it into the centere of the strip of paper and trifolded the paper around it. We then put a a small piece of velcro on it to keep it closed and stamped our names and wedding date on the front in burgandy. All of them women really liked them because they were nice small note pads to carry in their purses. They were cheap to make (the most expensive thing was we had the rubber stamp made for the front of the note pads) and they looked quite nice when done. Just an idea. Good Luck with the wedding.

I would get organza bags in fall colors and make soap petals (will post instructions below). You could also make tealight candles in clear plastic tealight cups in fall fragrances and fall colors. They are very easy and veryone loves candles! Sachets also makes great favors, you can make herbal sachets or corncob sachets which are much less expensive. If you use organza bags they make things look so pretty.
Intructions for soap petals:
You can use fall silk leaves or silk rose petals in your wedding colors and purchase clear melt & pour soap at a craft store (hobby lobby) and get fragrance there as well, no color is needed.
Melt your soap and add fragrance and dip your petals or leaves in the soap using a pair of tweezers and place them on wax paper to dry.
Put them in organza bags and add a personal message on the drawstrings of the bag with your name and date and instructions on how to use them.
Take one petal and rub between wet hands until you get a good lather and disgard.

Corncob sachets
use organza bags again or polypro bags and fragrance oil from craft shop.
You can get crushed corn cob bedding at a pet store, this holds fragrance well. Add 1 tablespoon fragrance per cup of corn cob and place in glass jar or zip loc bag and shake well, let set for 4-7 days and check scent you may need to add more. Repeat process until you get desired scent strength.
Package in bags.
I hope this helps.

We will have caramel apples wrapped in celophane with a small thank you note for our fall wedding. I would stick with something edible if possible, these seem to be most appreciated by wedding guests. Look for simple recipes that evoke a "fall" feeling, anything using pumpkins would be perfect. Other ideas: small jars of honey/maple syrup, leaf-shaped cookies, any type of candy in fall colors. Then just buy some small containers in bulk & fill them yourself. Tie a ribbon and attach a small note saying thank you to your guests & you're done. Simple & cheap!

I love favors you can eat. Guests don't have to worry about carting them home and they're a nice snack before the main dish arrives. Leaf shaped cookies in a nice bag would be nice and very inexpensive if you had a family member do them.
Don't buy online. The money you save on price will be spent on shipping and handling.

My fiance and I are having a fall wedding next year, and we're giving the guests cookies.
Having been a guest at many a wedding, I can tell you exactly what I DON'T want: candles, cutesy soaps, anything that references the wedding (this is your special day, not mine — I don't need a momento), or something that I have to take home.
Keep in mind that a lot of times what the bride finds cute and endearing is either unappreciated or unwanted by your guests. If your guests can eat it, then usually they're happy.

go to marylandchina.com. Look at trinket boxes and candy dishes. They have bone white porcelain pieces that you can get for $1.99 to 3.50 and up. I just purchased 25 trinket boxes for a birthday dinner and I only paid $2.50 a piece. They came UPS and are just gorgeous. The quality is fabulous. They are so different than the average wedding favor which are all the same thing on every website. If you have any question, talk to ashley. She is the sales coordinator and is very helpful. You will be very surprised at what you can get for under $3.00.

in one of your "colors" and put some Hershey Kisses in them. In the fall, Hershey's comes out with their "fall colored foil" kisses. You can attach a little card on it "Thank you for sharing our day." I have seen these little cards - already typed up! at Michael's craft store and online.
Good luck!

Wedding favors only work in two categories . .
Something useful like candlesticks or a small vase or a candy dish.
OR
Something edible, preferably homemade, like cookies.
Here's some ideas . .
Yellow apples, red apples, oranges, pears and green apples in a large bowl or basket in the center of the reception table. You have a colorful autumn centerpiece and fresh fruit for your guests to take home (don't forget to make a little sign telling the guests to help themselves).
Small mugs with an envelope of instant hot chocolate or instant cider with the message . . We've got our love to keep us warm."
Peanut butter cookies or molasses cookies.
Candy or Carmel apples.
Small bottles of maple syrup or maple candy.
Cookie cutters in the shapes of leaves or pumpkins.

I got married in september and one of my favorite ideas was to use maple candies in the shape of fall leaves. Also a good possibility is to, instead of a traditional favor, donate your favor money to a charitable foundation. Check out: http://www.idofoundation.org for more information. They even have little cards you can put at the tables to show you made a donation in lieu of favors. It is a unique idea!

My fiance and I are involved in the Lance Armstrong Foundation so we are having the "LiveStrong" bracelets and a note saying a donation was made in this persons name. If you're not having a sweet table, you can have various glass jars with loose candy in them and have small bags on the side so our guests can help themselves. It looks cute-especially if you match your colors-and it's pretty cheap. Good Luck!

we are doing a mixture of caramel apples and little individaul pecan pie tart.
Keep the favors edible or do a charitable donation. Nobody wants the homemade CD's or dust collecting junk to clutter their homes. Stuff like that gets left behind or if your guests are polite they wait to trash them when they get home.

Don't do favors, since most people throw them out anyways…instead use the money to make a donation to an organization that you support and on each persons plate write a note that says, "In lieu of a favor the money was used to make a donation to ______________. Thank you for all of your love and support on our special day!" We did this at our wedding and everyone loved it! Plus you can feel good about using the money (how ever much you can afford) to a good cause!

I was married last fall. I made little "fortune cookies" (like a pocket) made out of paper, stamped with a "Stampin Up" fall leaves roller and then I filled them with jelly belly candy with fall colors. Then before closing them up, I attached a piece of paper (the "fortune") and on one side there was a message of thanks to the guests and the other side said our names and "lucky numbers" 10.7.07 (our wedding date).
How do you make the paper pocket?
take a piece of paper and roll it into a tube shape (it should look like a cardboard toilet paper tube) use double sided tape and staple to secure it. Then pinch one end shut and secure with double sided tape and staple. Fill with candy.
Here is the tricky part: secure the open end like the opposite end but fold it so that one end is vertical and the other horizontal. To me, it looks like a fortune cookie. before taping and stapling, add in the "thank you message".
You can make the pockets your wedding colors with your choice of paper color and then before creating the "pocket" decorate with stamps. The "Stampin Up" roller works like magic.
If you craft-challenged, you could purchase little boxes or use baggies and use a twist tie and fill with your choice of colored Jelly Bellies.
