What should I use for favors? (fall wedding)?

I want to keep the fall theme going throughout my wedding. I have thought about putting apples in a cellophane bag tied w/ ribbon. What do you think? My original thought was Carmel apples, but they were too pricey.

Caramel apples are ridiculously expensive if you purchase them online. Did you check with a local apple orchard? They may be able to sell them to you inexpensively. Otherwise look into making your own with help from your moms and bridesmaids.

Other ideas:
Mini jars of homemade apple or pumpkin butter
Sugar cookies in fall shapes
Chocolates in fall shapes (you can order candy molds online and purchase candy melts at Walmart)
Mini loaves of homemade pumpkin or zucchini bread

Ginger bread cookies, or spice cookies cut into a leaf shape would be cool. Marzipan apples would cool as well. Regular apples might be a bit big.

Pumpkin cookies are delicious treat especially the kind with chocolate chips, perhaps apple cupcakes, candied apples (if bought in bulk, wouldn’t be as expensive as buying them individually or home made kits), also homemade mini jars of preserves like strawberry/apple jam, maple syrup. I think the idea of apple butter was original and tasty. If your guests aren’t allergic try slices or mini loaves of banana nut bread or monkey bread (southern bread that’s very tasty and easy to make, think cornbread with flavored nuts). Maripan cherries with dusted sugar on them.

What about a hot chocolate or cider mix, or a packet of both? Good for men or women. You could put the mix in a plastic bag that was decorated for fall, and tie it off with a bit of fall ribbon. Here is a recipe for the cider mix, and I have seen all kinds of recipes on the net for the hot chocolate.

    HOT SPICED CIDER MIX

    1 c. orange-flavored drink mix
    1 c. sugar-sweetened apple-flavored soft drink mix
    1 c. sugar
    1/2 c. instant tea
    1 (6 oz.) pkg. sugar-sweetened lemonade-flavored mix
    1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. ground cloves
    1/4 tsp. ground allspice

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well. Store in an airtight container until ready to use.

For each serving, place 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon mix in a cup. Add 1 cup boiling water and stir well. Serve hot. Yield: 42 servings.

can you go apple picking and actually pick the # of apples you need for the favors? because then you could put a tag that says ‘hand picked just for you at the blank orchard, anytown, ny’

You could give guests small individual bottles of apple cider and tie cinnamon sticks to them with a ribbon.

If it’s fall, then I’d suggest to go with its own color.
