Votive holders & candles are the only ones I can say I've ever used or appreciated.

My favorites fall into two categories:

    1) edible, such as chocolates or Jordan almonds and
    2) non-existant.

I never know what to do with little personalized thingies. I don't drink so the corkscrews, wine glasses, little bottles of liquor, shot glasses and such are of no use to me…and most of the other non-edible things I've been given have been equally useless, but it cost the hosts sometimes several hundred dollars to give them out.

Really, I'd usually rather not have to figure out what to do with them. And please don't apologize or tell me what you did with the money instead. How you spend it is between you and your God, and I honestly don't need to know.

For our wedding, my husband and I made a donation to the American Heart Association in his father's name. His dad had passed away from a heart attack and we thought it was a nice way to honor his father's memory on our special day. We printed up a few papers that said " In Lieu of favors a donation has been made to the American Heart Association in honor of Thomas Sr…." We framed them and put one on the bar, one at the card table, and one on the cake table. Everyone was touched by it, and it meant more to them than shot glasses or chocolates.

I like cheap silver picture frames. You can put bride and groom's picture in it, or even use it as a placecard holder, but then the guests can take it home and put their own picture in it later.
Food is okay, but make sure it's decent food. Jordan's almonds or those chalky mints just make you seem tacky or boring.
