My Girlfriend gave out ornaments at her wedding, however they were not handmade. She had a favor ribbon put on them.. ( ribbon with your names and wedding date) Clear glass ornaments would be nice. You could put your thumbprints on them since your hands are too big for them. Make something out of the thumbprint then add the favor ribbon.. Good luck on the favors and on your beautiful day.
References :
Personal Experience

I was watching the wedding show today, and the wedding planner had ordered(but you could make them) large cookies with the bride and grooms initial on them, they were wrapped in clear cellophane and tied with a small ribbon to match the colors. You could make Christmas bell ornaments like that, poke a string thru it before it's baked.....
what is really simple is a small colored votive candle.Just tie it up in some pretty clear or colored cellophane, and tie a silver ribbon on it.You can press pearl pins around the candles to make them look more eloquent.
My friend wrapped tiny, small presents in shiny silver paper, and put them in a gigantic crystal bowl on an eloquent little table, with a lace table cloth,it looked sooo pretty, and she had a tiny note on each gift, shaped like a gift tag, that had a saying Melissa and Allen want to thank-you for sharing their day with them...and it made a lovely decoration for the table..or being the holidays you might put it under a tree..but the tiny presents all wrapped alike in the crystal bowl was soooo pretty!
References :
Bells are very popular for Christmas and you could write a little note or save-the-date on them and they would be great ornaments and great favors, if you don't want to use bells you could always use snowflakes; another idea is to make snowmen as a bride and groom, then again there is the traditional round bulb with you and your husband's names and the date of your wedding(nice and simple).
References :
A heart in Christmas colors would be lovely. You can buy the hollow glass ornaments at crafts supply stores for not a lot of bucks. I'd also sugest trying wholesale suppliers (use Google to find them -- search for wholesale crafts suppliers) like the Oriental Trading Company. They may not have the best prices, so you'll want to shop around.

Once you have the hollow glass hearts, fill them with spiral curls of curling ribbon in Christmas colors. To make it spiral, hold the scissors at a 45-degree angle to the ribbon (instead of the usual 90 degree angle) as you pull the scissors along to curl the ribbon. You could also swirl paint, if you'd prefer, inside the hearts or put tiny artificial flowers in them. You could do all three -- do some of each.

Now that I think of it, a friend has a recipe for a cinnamon ornament dough (non-edible) that you roll and cut and bake into fragrant ornaments. Once the ornaments had baked and cooled, you could use fabric paint as "decorating icing" and have some really cute original ornaments. Tie a pretty ribbon on top, and they're all set. It would be nice to use a bell, since that's both wedding and Christmas, but you could use anything you liked. Email me (click on my avatar for an email link) if you want that recipe and I'll get it from my friend for you. Her ornaments smelled lovely!
References :
What about buying cute minuture stockings, you could add wedding embelishments, personalize each one with the guest name and wedding date. You can fill with candy, candles maybe have a picture of you and the groom etc.

Clear wedding ornaments filled with christmas confetti, hand painted with you name and wedding date. Tie an organza bow on top.
References :
My mom and I made these little ornaments that my kids thought were really cute. We made these velvet bags with Gold string that looked like Santa bags. Then we crushed Styrofome and filled the bags with it. Snowman poop. It was a big hit in their class.

May not be the best idea for a wedding but I just had to share.

You could make the Santa bags though. Maybe add those gold bands you can buy at a craft store. Ill think about it some more.
