how to make your own wedding favors?

i would like to make my own wedding favors, and i would like some ideas please, also i am having a fall wedding.

You want something useful and fairly inexpensive.

1) Small frames - my cousin used small frames as her favor, they also held the card with the table number. It was a simple metal frame. Perfect to hold a picture of them that they sent with the thank you. It is on my bookcase. I have seen them in the dollar store.

A friend did frames too. But hers were plastic and "weddingy". I still have it, somewhere, but it isn’t something I would ever use.

2) Another friend gave a small glass votive with a candle that matched the theme (in this case yellow). It turned out to be quite handy. The reception hall lost power for an hour of the reception. We all lit our candles. It looked beautiful. I still use mine.

3) Another friend gave small flower pots with seeds, but is was a spring wedding. She also made mix cds of songs that were meaningful to her and the groom.

4) You can get inexpensive wine glasses or champagne flutes to fill with candies

5) Personalized small bottles of wine, beer, or chocolate bars are always nice too.

6) If you are having alot of out of town guests, why not get a local treat?

7) Since you are having a fall wedding, what about popcorn or chocolate covered apples? Or personalized pencils (kind of a fall back to school thing)?

I would skip the "popular" favors. I (along with most people who have attended a few weddings recently) have a life time supply of heart bottle stoppers, bottle openers, and ice cream scoops.

Don’t over do the favors. One of my coworkers went favor crazy. I left her wedding loaded up with knick knacks that cost her a fortune.

Remember to KISS (keep it simple stupid). One thoughtful favor is all you need. You don’t want to add unneeded cost and worry to your special day.

At my wedding, we are going to have the place care holders as wedding favors. Flower pot votive holders with colored candles inside, then a copper wire encircling the candle and then going up into a swirl to hold the card. The wire can very easily be taken out and they can still have a beautiful candle.

Also, I am having a sunflower wedding, so I am getting glassine (think thats what they are called) with sunflower seeds inside.

Of course, monogrammed cookies are nice and easy to make.

    A great website is pashweddings.com
They have a TON of ideas as well as a forum to discuss everything wedding!

    Have a beautiful day!

First, look through some websites and craft stores for ideas. Then, decide what you want to make or have. You can do edible (cookies, cakes, cupcakes, candy, chocolate covered Oreos, honey, jam, etc) or useful (wine bottle stoppers, coasters, etc). Once you decide what you want to make, figure out what supplies you will need and how it will work. Buy enough stuff to make a prototype and mess around with it until you get it the way you want. Then use it as a model to make the rest.

We are making wine and cheese baskets for our guests (our reception is at a winery) so we bought 175 baskets and bags of the shredded paper for the bottom at a wholesale floral supply warehouse, 500 packs of crackers from a restaurant supply store and we’re getting the cheese wholesale through our florist. I also got 175 sets of handblown glass grapes from a floral supplier in Thailand and 500 handmade chocolates from a local chocolatier. The wine is being provided by the winery as are these cool little wine and food pairing guides. My mom and I are assembling the baskets 2 days beforehand and storing them in the reception hall’s walk-in fridge.

    Good luck!

You could try making your own candy ( chocolate, for example). Something I do for get-togethers is I take semi-cheap spoons, scoop up melted chocolate, and freeze it. You could always have monogrammed spoons, I’ve seen them before.
You could make your own picture frames- and use them as place cards. And when the wedding is said and done with, your guests can use them to put a picture in.
You could also make your own CD’s for guests…put songs that will be played at your wedding on there, or just songs you and your "to-be" likes.
There’s a bunch of ideas out there. Like others have said, try Micheals, Hobby Lobby, Oriental Trading Company, etc.

    Good Luck & Congrats!

We are giving out mini bottles of champagne, although I realize that has nothing to do with your fall theme. You could make some kind of decoration for them to take home out of indian corn or a mini pumpking (fall theme!). They could even double as place card holders. Then there’s always the standard candy wrapped in tulle. You could order customized M&Ms with your names and date, in fall colors of course. They will even print your picture on the M&Ms now! Candles are always nice too. If you’re budget is not super tight, what about a glass votive holder (can find on sale at Michael’s for 50 cents sometimes) with a Yankee Candle Co. votive inside? They smell GREAT, plus they have tons of fall scents, like pumpkin, etc.

Use white ribbons to jazz up almost anything. Tie them around glasses, candles or even silverware. Just make sure that whatever they are tied around is supposed to go home with the guests. Also tie in the wedding colors by writing the names and date on the ribbon with colored pen. You can also use ribbons in the wedding colors in the same manner.

Try miniatures as a fun favor. Use mini champaign flutes filled with potpourri, covered with netting and names and date written on glass. Use mini satin pillows to duplicate the ring pillow with the names and date nicely embrodered on them. There are many miniature items that can be found and personalized for wedding favors.

Use simple crafts. Origami can be easy to do and easily found online. You can buy the paper in colors that coordinate with the wedding theme. There are flowers, birds or even simple boxes that can be made. Crafts are probably best for smaller weddings since time may be a concern.

    Favor idea #4

Make practical favors. Use small vine wreaths decorated with flowers as napkin rings. Give votive wrapped in netting with names and date written on them. For the exit of the couple tie birdseed or rice in netting and tie with a ribbon to match wedding colors. Write names and date on bottle of bubbles.
    Favor idea #5

Try a small gift bag. The bag can be in the wedding colors with the names and date written on the outside. Put items inside that the guests can use at the wedding, like a disposable camera, bubbles, rice or birdseed. Also include things people normally keep from a wedding, like personalize napkins. The gift bag can get expensive, so buy in bulk and avoid putting to much inside.

These five ideas are just a start to what you can do for wedding favors. The theme of the wedding will, in most cases, dictate its own favor ideas. Just remember to coordinate everything from writing on items to ribbons to the actual items coloring. The idea is to match everything to everything else. Always mark things with the name of the bride and groom as well as the wedding date. You can do it in fancy calligraphy, glitter pens or a magic marker. Keep in mind the basics laid out here and have fun making your own wedding favors.
