You could order personalized chocolate bars:

That way you have the best of both worlds. I do think edible favors are the way to go. People that want to can keep the personalized wrapper after they eat the chocolate. As pretty as candles are, unfortunately they usually do end up in the trash or collecting dust somewhere.

I would go for something more generic. Try a CD of the songs that you spent so much time choosing or put the place cards into little picture frames that your guests can take home and use.

Whatever makes you feel good but remember that people will probably take it home and add it to a pile of crap/memorabilia they have at home. What you really have to ask yourself is how many things have you kept from the weddings you have gone to?

I had personalized wedding favors but I think they are not necessary or even liked. If I were going to a wedding I would much prefer something I like that does not have someones name on it. The only thing the personalized favors are good for is for the mom of the bride and such.

For our wedding last year, we took full size hershey's chocolate bars, bought some wrapping paper that was in our wedding colors, cut them to the original wrappers size, and taped it on with double stick tape. Then we made little tags that said "...and they lived happily ever after." We got the stamp and the cardstock from a craft supply store. We didn't have any left over after the wedding and we started with 250! Really it is totally up to you whether you want to put the time and effort and money into a project like this. If you wanted to go with the candle thing, you could go to orientaltrading.com and they can get them shipped to you already made pretty quickly. Depending on the size of your order, you may get your shipping for free, which really helps when you are planning a wedding. Good luck!

I am in the same situation as you, and the honest truth is that your friend is right. I am actually considering "PhotoFavors" which is where u hire a separate.... a second photogarpher (not the one for ur pictures) but the 2nd photographer will take professional pictures of your guests as they come in to the reception cite and he will then print them out and ur guests can pick them up on ur their way out. This way even though it doesnt say ur names anywhere, when ur guests are asked "thats a nice picture, where did u take it?" they can say it was taken at ur wedding. I think Im opting for that.. good luck!

Personalized wedding favors are cute (at the time), but no one that I know really hangs onto favors from somebody elses wedding. The only favor I have from a wedding is a magnetized photograph the couple had a big basket of at the reception. Now THAT I liked! :)

Actually, at the last wedding I attended, they gave away personalized shot glasses. They had the bride and groom's names, the wedding date and a picture of a couple dancing on them. I LOVE MINE!! It's great, and you can use it afterwards.
